WhatsApp for Android May Soon Move Attachment Button, Make Video Call Button Separate

videocall_main_1489062018301.jpg

WhatsApp is said to be testing specific business tools to begin its revenue stream, and is expected to launch the stable version sometime later in the year. However in the meantime, WhatsAp is also tweaking few things here and there to just improve the everyday experience. With the WhatsApp v2.17.93 beta for Android, the app relocates the attachment button, and finally makes the voice and video call button separate, something that was exclusive only to iPhone users previously.

First, when WhatsApp video was launched, the video calling feature was hidden underneath the call button on the top right edge. By clicking the ‘call’ button, two options used to pop up – one for voice call and one for video call – and you had to press the one you prefer. Now, WhatsApp is testing a separate video button in the latest beta version of Andriod to make the video calling button more visible to the users, and Android Police was the first one to spot this change.

The new WhatsApp video call button for Android replaces the attachment button that used to sit next to the call button, and the attachment button has shifted to the bottom alongside the text bar. It sits right beside the camera icon which has also been redesigned. This enables the user to access all of the conversation related buttons in one place, and users will no more have to head on to the top edge just to attach an image or a file. For iPhone users, the attachment button is already alongside the text bar at the bottom of the screen.

Remember, these features are only available in beta for now, but will be launched for all Android users soon. If you can’t wait, join the WhatsApp beta community in Google Play or download it manually from APK Mirror here.

Reliance Jio v. Airtel v. Vodafone: unlimited tariff plans compared

With Reliance Jio sparking a revolution of sorts in the Indian telecommunications sector, the likes of Airtel and Vodafone have been raising the bar to make data and calling more affordable. In their quest, all three telecom operators now offer “unlimited” calling and data bundles at comparable pricing. Which one should you pick? Read on.

plan.jpeg

Straight off the bat, Jio and Vodafone seem to be offering highly comparable deals. Both the operators offer 1GB of 4G data usage each day at any given point, and Jio edges ahead on account of the unlimited usage period between 2am and 5am. Airtel, meanwhile, restricts usage to 500MB for 22 hours of the day, and reserves the rest 500MB of usage for between 3am and 5am. While it is somewhat improbable that you will be up every day to simply make use of 500MB of data each day, Jio ranks first in terms of the total data on offer each month, and overall.

Speed
As per TRAI’s MySpeed app report, Reliance Jio is topping the 4G download speed charts in India with 16.3Mbps average speed, followed by Vodafone with 9.2Mbps average speed, while Airtel ranks fourth with 5.8Mbps. For upload speeds, Vodafone leads the chart with 5.2Mbps, with Jio on third with 3.06Mbps and Airtel marginally behind with 3.05Mbps. On overall terms, Jio and Vodafone are in the lead with 4G services in India, with Airtel falling behind in total data on offer and overall data speed.

Validity
While you only get the “unlimited” plans as prepaid with Airtel and Vodafone, Reliance Jio offers the same plan as both prepaid and postpaid offers. Anyone can subscribe to these offers from Reliance and Airtel by March 31, 2017, while Vodafone plans to rope in all its users by March 15, 2017. Each of these three plans will remain active until March 31, 2018, and come into effect on April 1, 2017. Vodafone, however, has confirmed that this plan is being offered to a “select” group of users, and we are not yet sure how the eligibility is being judged.

With all of this in sight, the new war of 4G services is slated to rise this month. While Vodafone seems to be matching Jio’s offerings toe-to-toe, it remains to be seen if Airtel introduces further plans in the near future, or remains content with the service it is presently offering.

Connectivity options for the OnePlus 3T include 4G LTE (with support for India’s LTE bands), Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.2, NFC, USB 2.0 Type-C, 3.5mm headphone jack, and GPS/ A-GPS. The device packs 3400mAh battery and supports the company’s Dash Charge (5V 4A) fast-charging technology. It measures 152.7×74.7×7.35mm and weighs 158 grams.

Separately, OnePlus is also holding a “Best Smartphone Contest” with a Rs. 1 crore cash prize. The details of the contest are mentioned on the company’s Indian website. Those who wish to enter the contest need to accumulate points based on weekly challenges after which a lucky draw will choose winners who will play the final round with Amitabh Bachchan. The octa-core SoC dissects into four ARM Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 2.2GHz and four other power-efficient ARM Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.4GHz.

Xiaomi’s Surge S1 SoC integrates a Mali-T860 quad-core GPU that brings 40 percent improved power efficiency, when compared to previous-gen Mali-T760. There’s also a 32-bit DSP for better voice processing for calls, and also dual microphones for noise reduction. The chip integrates 14-bit dual ISP and the company’s own Surge ISP algorithm that claims to improve camera light sensitivity by up to 150 percent, and the dual noise reduction algorithm also preserves detail in low light.
